Left-Dislocated Structures in Old English: a Corpus Study

„This monograph is a valuable contribution to diachro-nic studies in generał and to the study of left-dislocation in particular. The author, following renowned historical linguists, puts emphasis on the empirical side, does not take anything for granted and always confronts facts with the language materiał. At the same time, hę is aware of the usual shortcomings of a historical linguistic investigation; hę recognises the fact that not all ąuestions can be answe-red when it comes to work on restricted corpora. Conceptually, this study is an interesting and diachro-nically littłe-expłored attempt to link left-dislocation with correlativization — two linguistic phenomena that appa-rently have a lot in common. A highly readable language and style makes this book recommendable not only to historical linguists but to anyone interested in linguistics and language change. drhab. Magdalena Bator, pro f. UJD
