ROMAN IMPERIAL. VITELLIUS (69 A.D). SILVER DENARIUS. Mint of Rome. Obverse: Features the laureate head of the emperor facing right. The reverse shows Victory walking, holding a globe with wings flowing from her shoulders. In Roman religion, Victoria was the personified goddess of victory, the equivalent of the Greek goddess Nike. Vitellius was the third emperor of the Year of the Four Emperors. He reigned for about eight months between 15 Apr and 22 December in AD 69. His short rule makes his coins sought after, valuable, and highly collectible in the world of numismatics. Mint Lugdunum, Gaul, modern-day Lyons, France. Weight: 3.33 grams. 17.5mm diameter.
