Certains documents le nomment Don Juan Felipe (Jean Philippe) Pedro alias Don Pedro, francisé en " Dom Pedre " ; " Pedro " a fini par être francisé en " Petro ". Moreau de Saint Mery nous a rapportés que Don Pedro était un nègre de Petit Goâve, dans la partie sud de la péninsule ; s’était un personnage qui avait des pratiques superstitieuses, courant les années 1760. Il est plus logique de considérer que le rite Petro se nommait Lemba et que Don Pedro ne l’aurait que développé et ce rituel finira par s’appeler " Rite Petro-Lemba ". Gasner Joint, que nous avons précédemment cité a certainement eu raison de déclarer que Don Pedro n’est pas le fondateur du rite Petro aussi dit " Petro-Lemba ". Ce dernier ne l’a que développé et son influence a fait précéder son nom francisé " Petro " devant le nom original qui est " Lemba ", pour finalement donner " Petro-Lemba ".
