Así, mientras en la televisión podían seguirse las audiencias del Juicio a las Juntas, ella se preguntaba por la vigencia de Operación Masacre de Walsh, por sus testimonios, por la primacía de ese autor-narrador justiciero y por la completa ausencia textual de Enriqueta Muñiz, quien fue fundamental en el proceso de investigación. Ponía en duda la supuesta polifonía de La traición de Rita Hayworth de Puig, y desplegaba fascinada las capas y capas compositivas de Cicatrices de Saer. Al mismo tiempo, armaba las piezas de un marco teórico novedoso y presentaba un sistema literario –el "canon Sarlo", comentado y criticado por escritoras y escritores, colegas, periodistas culturales– en el que convivían quienes ahora el público general reconoce como los grandes clásicos del siglo XX con autoras y autores más contemporáneos. Zambulléndose en los textos para contarnos cómo están hechos, de dónde salen los materiales y cómo se traban en una forma, Sarlo enseñó y sigue enseñando modos de leer, de hacerse preguntas, de sacar a la literatura de su zona de autosuficiencia. Estas clases son ejercicios críticos maravillosos, con su propia dosis de intriga y expectativa, pero también herramientas imperdibles para profesores, estudiantes y lectores apasionados.
