Está configurado en dos partes tácitas: inicialmente unos estudios centrados en la Conquista y la Colonia colombianas, y una segunda parte a literatura de los siglos XX y XXI. Esta obra busca ser un aporte más al campo de los estudios de literatura colombiana, en ningún caso el estudio último, la verdadera historia de la literatura colombiana.
