Ante este hecho, nos preguntamos cómo saber qué libros son inspirados por Dios y, por tanto, deben formar parte de la lista exclusiva de textos que se incluyen en nuestras biblias impresas. El presente ensayo es fruto del extenso trabajo y la experiencia del doctor y teólogo Fernando Daniel Saraví en la enseñanza de la Biblia. El lector tiene en sus manos una magistral traducción del pali al castellano del Majjhima Nikâya, una de las principales colecciones de sermones del Buddha histórico. Los Sermones Medios del Buddha son las enseñanzas que el Buddha predicaba en la India hace 2.500 años y forman una parte indispensable del canon budista en lengua pali (la lengua del Buddha). Preservadas durante siglos en los monasterios de Sri Lanka, estas enseñanzas se han ido extendiendo gradualmente por todo el mundo, primero en Oriente y luego en Occidente, donde tanto ha crecido el interés por el budismo. El presente volumen contiene 50 de los 152 sermones que forman esta colección, agrupados temáticamente y con notas necesarias para facilitar su comprensión. Esta colección de reflexiones sobre la cultura y literatura latinoamericanas está dividida en tres partes principales –cada una de ellas compuesta de tres ensayos– y un epílogo. En la primera parte, que he nombrado Arqueologías de la nación, realizo tres incursiones puntuales sobre el modo en que los archivos nacionales literarios han fundamentado su origen y dibujado su pretendida trascendencia. En la segunda parte de este libro, cuyo título es Poéticas y retóricas de autor, visito la obra de varios poetas del siglo XX, para ofrecer a los lectores y futuros investigadores algunas posibilidades interpretativas que estimo novedosas o, por lo menos, insuficientemente estudiadas. En la tercera, denominada Tropos y ficciones culturales, observo la manera en que dos ensayistas y críticos latinoamericanos estructuran sus sistemas de pensamiento, en torno de ciertas figuras retóricas que les permiten narrar la evolución de la cultura latinoamericana. Inspirado en este juego conceptual, construyo mi propia ficción o tropo cultural, para analizar el concepto de interculturalidad literaria, tal como se presenta en un poema que adopto como ejemplo. Finalmente, el Epílogo sobre el canon literario está dedicado al estudio de la figura del librero de inicios del siglo XX en la ciudad de Quito, como miembro pleno del sistema literario: educador, promotor y suscitador del canon.
