Esta antología reúne las participaciones de algunos ponentes del Coloquio Internacional de Estudios Críticos sobre Géneros Populares, que tuvo lugar en agosto del 2016 en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UNAM . Este coloquio fue producto del proyecto PAPIME (Programa de Apoyo a Proyectos para la Innovación y Mejoramiento de la Enseñanza) del mismo nombre que, por más de tres años, se construyó con la colaboración de profesores, investigadores y estudiantes, tanto mexicanos como extranjeros. En suma, un sinfín de personas originarias de diversas comunidades universitarias, de México y el mundo, dieron una voz multiforme a esta iniciativa, ideada para ampliar las perspectivas y estudios de los géneros populares en Hispanoamérica. Quienes integramos este proyecto provenimos de contextos variados y cumplimos distintas funciones dentro de nuestras universidades, pero tenemos algo en común: al igual que miles de personas alrededor del mundo, somos unos entusiastas de la cultura popular y sus manifestaciones en la literatura, el cine, los cómics y la televisión. Muchas de nosotras pasamos nuestra niñez leyendo sagas de fantasía —con sus historias de posibilidades infinitas— o explorando universos tornadizos a través del cine de ciencia ficción. Algunos disfrutamos una y otra vez con la nostalgia y ferocidad del viejo oeste, así como con lecturas nocturnas en compañía de detectives y enigmas capaces de robarnos varias noches de sueño. Otros siempre elegiremos encarar monstruosas manifestaciones o deleitarnos con la gama de emociones que contiene una historia de amor. En otras palabras, nuestro quehacer dentro de este proyecto y, más concretamente, la planeación y producción de esta antología parten, en primer lugar, de un deseo simple: compartir con otros lectores el entusiasmo que sentimos cada vez que nos encontramos con materiales como los descritos anteriormente. En segundo lugar, a este sentido de pertenencia y gozo —muy común en quienes consumimos estos productos culturales— se le han aunado el impulso reflexivo y la predisposición analítica propias del estudio académico.

Aber eine solche Methode schien Gernot zu langwierig und vielleicht auch nicht wirksam genug. Ein Alarmsystem wurde sicher erst ausgelöst, wenn Schwerwiegenderes geschah, Lebenswichtiges gefährdet wurde.

¿Qué es el cine clásico? No trataremos aquí de establecer algunos "clásicos del cine" o de discutir un canon. Lo que este libro busca es interrogar ciertas formas, estilos y funciones que suelen, en el cine, considerarse clásicas, y que poseen una trayectoria por lo menos atípica. Mientras otras artes delineaban sus percepciones de lo moderno, el cine estabilizó, y a escala planetaria, ciertos modos de mostrar y narrar durante varias décadas. No pocos vieron en ello formas de un clasicismo iniciado por realizadores como David W. Griffith y mantenido hasta el presente en otros como Clint Eastwood, mientras que en su apogeo eran sostenidos y recreados por cineastas tan dispares como Fritz Lang o Raoul Walsh, por citar algunos de los aquí examinados. El largo debate sobre el cine clásico abarcó posturas muy diversas, sumó partidarios y detractores entre realizadores, teóricos y críticos. No obstante, ese modo cinematográfico se ha manifestado muy permeable, complejo y hasta paradójico en su estructura, así como especialmente abierto al tráfico fronterizo.
