In our esthetics-obsessed culture, patients are becoming more aware and demanding of dermal filler treatments. Yet all too often we hear news stories of botched procedures or anesthesia gone wrong. This book walks you through how to incorporate dermal fillers into your clinical armamentarium, starting with the basic characteristics of the materials and advancing to the injection techniques and clinical indications for their use. The author includes such fine detail as whether to use a needle versus a cannula and why you must understand the precise tissue layers of the face in order to effectively deliver this nuanced treatment. In step with its sister volume, Botulinum Toxin for Facial Harmony, the book focuses on facial analysis as a crucial step in determining appropriate treatment, a philosophy that is carried through the entire book. An entire chapter is devoted to clinical cases illustrating the various facial regions and their appropriate filler applications, clearly demonstrating how to use the techniques presented to optimize esthetics and facial harmony. While many clinicians currently recognize that bisphosphonate usage is associated with osteonecrosis of the jaws, this book establishes the causal relationship between the two, explaining the biologic modes of action that enable bisphosphonates taken both orally and intravenously to induce osteonecrosis of the jaws. Like the first edition, it presents definitive treatment protocols for patients who present at each stage in the progression of osteonecrosis, but this new edition also includes a simplified staging system and information about the serum CTX test for oral bisphosphonate cases. In addition, several management principles and surgical techniques are provided, along with new data on osteopenia and osteoporosis, the conditions for which bisphosphonates are primarily prescribed. The book offers a simple method for predicting risk as well as crucial recommendations for preventing the disease from developing when bisphosphonate therapy is indicated. Comprehensive case histories related to both oral and intravenous bisphosphonates provide direct guidance in managing patients spanning the full presentation spectrum. A must-have for the student and practicing clinician alike.

The practice of pediatric dentistry requires a broad knowledge of dentistry, orthodontics, nutritional sciences, and last but not least, psychology. The goal is to enable our young patients to live with the healthiest teeth possible, and this involves understanding how to embrace the opportunity, challenge, and responsibility of ensuring an ideal start for even the tiniest of our patients. This book presents the fundamentals of pediatric dentistry and explains how to incorporate them into an existing dental practice. Because parents are a crucial part of the equation, particular focus is given to educating and managing parents to be the best advocate for their children's oral health. While the book is a useful reference for everyday practice in terms of examination, diagnostics, and findings, it goes further to include tips on how to create a child-friendly environment, how to communicate with young patients, and how to handle difficult situations with uncooperative patients or parents. The second half of the book is given over to treatment considerations, spanning from preventive treatment like fluorides and sealants to filling and crown therapy. This final chapter also includes sections on antibiotic use, managing trauma, sedation, and other particular challenges in everyday practice. This book is an essential resource for anyone working with kids in dentistry.
