Nicomachean Ethics Aristotle - The Nicomachean Ethics is one of Aristotle's most widely read and influential works. Ideas central to ethics—that happiness is the end of human endeavor, that moral virtue is formed through action and habituation, and that good action requires prudence—found their most powerful proponent in the person medieval scholars simply called "the Philosopher." Drawing on their intimate knowledge of Aristotle's thought, Robert C. Bartlett and Susan D. Collins have produced here an English-language translation of the Ethics that is as remarkably faithful to the original as it is graceful in its rendering. Aristotle is well known for the precision with which he chooses his words, and in this elegant translation his work has found its ideal match. Bartlett and Collins provide copious notes and a glossary providing context and further explanation for students, as well as an introduction and a substantial interpretive essay that sketch central arguments of the work and the seminal place of Aristotle's Ethics in his political philosophy as a whole. The Nicomachean Ethics has engaged the serious interest of readers across centuries and civilizations—of peoples ancient, medieval, and modern; pagan, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish—and this new edition will take its place as the standard English-language translation.

Long before the pyramids, Stonehenge, or the earliest cities, ancient builders carved vast ceremonial structures into a Turkish hillside—structures that rewrote everything we thought we knew about human civilization. Stones of the Forgotten Dawn offers experts and professionals a clear, reference-oriented analysis of Göbekli Tepe, the world's oldest known monumental complex and one of archaeology's most profound mysteries. This authoritative guide synthesizes excavation reports, architectural studies, radiocarbon data, and comparative analyses to examine the site's astonishing features: towering T-shaped pillars, intricate animal carvings, circular enclosures, and construction methods that predate agriculture, metallurgy, and settled life. Each chapter presents structured entries on architectural typologies, symbolic interpretations, excavation phases, and scholarly debates surrounding ritual function, social organization, and early religious development. Beyond cataloguing what has been uncovered, the book evaluates leading theories—from ceremonial gathering hub to astronomical observatory—while clearly distinguishing evidence from speculation. Designed for readers seeking precision and scholarly rigor, this reference work provides a comprehensive overview of a site that continues to challenge assumptions about the origins of complex society. Göbekli Tepe stands at the threshold of human cultural awakening—this book illuminates why it matters.

The intent of all technological advancements in the machining universe is to increase productivity and precision with less involvement of the endangered species known as the Machinist. Connectivity, data, and digitization are providing opportunities for significant improvements in modeling, programming, simulation, machine/people productivity, and real-time decision making. Advances in chip technology and processing speeds yield more sophisticated controls. Software enhancements create advanced CAM systems which interpret more complex models and produce higher precision programs. This book demonstrates how to integrate these technological advancements with Lean /Six Sigma, CNC Programming, Quality, and machining best practices to create an agile machining organization capable of winning against competition anywhere in the world. While most publications are written for executives the author has deliberately designed this publication for the entire organization. The role of everyone on the organizational chart or in the shop is discussed and reviewed. The premise of the book is that the demands of global competition on the modern machining organization are so great that success requires a foundation of Leadership, People, Equipment, Quality, IT, robust processes, and all employees executing to yield exceptional quality, delivery, and profits. The author provides the architecture and blueprint for high performance.

<p>"Supply Chain Event Management (SCEM)" is one of the major topics in application-oriented Supply Chain Management. However, many solutions lack conceptual precision and currently available client-server SCEM-systems are ill-suited for complex supply networks in today's business environment. Agent-based proactive information logistics promises to overcome existing deficits by providing event-related information to all participants in the distributed environment. Hence, follow-up costs of disruptive events are significantly reduced for all network participants and performance of a supply network is increased. </p> <p>In this book a thorough analysis of the event management problem domain is the starting point to develop a generic agent-based approach to Supply Network Event Management. The main focus lies on practical issues of event management (e.g., semantic interoperability) and economic benefits to be achieved with agent technology in this state-of-the-art problem domain.</p>

The aim of this book is to bring together a series of contributions from experts in the field to cover the major aspects of the application of geostatistics in precision agriculture. The focus will not be on theory, although there is a need for some theory to set the methods in their appropriate context. The subject areas identified and the authors selected have applied the methods in a precision agriculture framework. The papers will reflect the wide range of methods available and how they can be applied practically in the context of precision agriculture. This book is likely to have more impact as it becomes increasingly possible to obtain data cheaply and more farmers use onboard digital maps of soil and crops to manage their land. It might also stimulate more software development for geostatistics in PA.

'An excellent, brisk guide to what is likely to happen as opposed to the fantastically remote.' - Los Angeles Review of Books In 2018 the world woke up to gene editing with a storm of controversy over twin girls born in China with genetic changes deliberately introduced by scientists - changes they will pass on to their own offspring. Genetic modification (GM) has been with us for 45 years now, but the new system known as CRISPR or gene editing can manipulate the genes of almost any organism with a degree of precision, ease and speed that we could only dream of ten years ago. But is it ethical to change the genetic material of organisms in a way that might be passed on to future generations? If a person is suffering from a lethal genetic disease, is it unethical to deny them this option? Who controls the application of this technology, when it makes 'biohacking' - perhaps of one's own genome - a real possibility? Nessa Carey's book is a thrilling and timely snapshot of a cutting-edge technology that will radically alter our futures and the way we prevent disease. 'A focused snapshot of a brave new world.' - Nature 'A brisk, accessible primer on the fast-moving field, a clear-eyed look at a technology that is already driving major scientific advances - and raising complex ethical questions.' - Emily Anthes, Undark
