The Wife of Sir Isaac Harman - H. G. Wells - The Wife of Sir Isaac Harman is a 1913 novel by H. G. Wells. Lady Harman is in a loveless marriage with Sir Isaac. Despite great wealth and 4 children, the relationship is not happy, with Sir Isaac struggling to exhert his dominance over his wife as she strives for greater freedom in the era of the Suffragettes. Similar in vein to Wells' other book, Ann Veronica, it reflects the author's interest in feminism. Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946) was an English writer. Prolific in many genres, he wrote dozens of novels, short stories, and works of social commentary, history, satire, biography and autobiography. His work also included two books on recreational war games. Wells is now best remembered for his science fiction novels and is sometimes called the "father of science fiction. During his own lifetime, however, he was most prominent as a forward-looking, even prophetic social critic who devoted his literary talents to the development of a progressive vision on a global scale. A futurist, he wrote a number of utopian works and foresaw the advent of aircraft, tanks, space travel, nuclear weapons, satellite television and something resembling the World Wide Web. His science fiction imagined time travel, alien invasion, invisibility, and biological engineering. Brian Aldiss referred to Wells as the "Shakespeare of science fiction", while American writer Charles Fort referred to him as a "wild talent". Wells rendered his works convincing by instilling commonplace detail alongside a single extraordinary assumption per work – dubbed "Wells's law" – leading Joseph Conrad to hail him in 1898 as "O Realist of the Fantastic!". His most notable science fiction works include The Time Machine (1895), which was his first novel, The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), The War of the Worlds (1898) and the military science fiction The War in the Air (1907). Wells was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times.

This carefully crafted ebook: "THE DUNWICH HORROR (Occult & Supernatural Classic)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. In the isolated, desolate, decrepit village of Dunwich, Wilbur Whateley is the hideous son of Lavinia Whateley, a deformed and unstable albino mother, and an unknown father (alluded to in passing by mad Old Whateley, as "Yog-Sothoth"). Strange events surround his birth and precocious development. Wilbur matures at an abnormal rate, reaching manhood within a decade. Locals shun him and his family, and animals fear and despise him (due to his odor). All the while, his sorcerer grandfather indoctrinates him into certain dark rituals and the study of witchcraft. Various locals grow suspicious after Old Whateley buys more and more cattle, yet the number of his herd never increases, and the cattle in his field become mysteriously afflicted with severe open wounds. Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American author who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction. He is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors in his genre. Some of Lovecraft's work was inspired by his own nightmares. His interest started from his childhood days when his grandfather would tell him Gothic horror stories.

This book explores the PONTES approach to Music Education. It presents theoretical and practical guidance for the development of pedagogical articulations and bridges to help connect teachers, students, music, sociocultural context and other variables that surround the teaching realities. The PONTES approach does not intend to be a method. It is a patient and reflexive approach designed to help both music educators and their students to learn and love music. It focus on the development of articulatory and connective competencies designed to music education artistic and educational processes in formal and informal socio-cultural contexts. In this work, we mean by music education all actions aimed at music education for all people who care to convey the musical knowledge and develop individuals through music, not only using music as a means to educate, but also working music as an end and as a support/help/assistance to the individual. We develop an inclusive vision for music education, accepting that the spirit of the music educator is inside of whom effectively develop people with music; we view the field including different types of music educations. I want to emphasize that PONTES offers an open approach to music education. The field already has a plethora of methods for teaching music. Each of these methods selects content to be taught, and organizes it into curricula and programs, lessons and activities. PONTES complements these methods by offering supplemental articulatory means to make them work in formal or informal contexts, with students of different ages, and varied backgrounds, interests, and goals.

The idea that 'home' is a special place, a separate place, a place where we can be our true selves, is so obvious to us today that we barely pause to think about it. But, as Judith Flanders shows in this revealing book, 'home' is a relatively new concept. When in 1900 Dorothy assured the citizens of Oz that 'There is no place like home', she was expressing a view that was a culmination of 300 years of economic, physical and emotional change. In The Making of Home, Flanders traces the evolution of the house across northern Europe and America from the sixteenth to the early twentieth century, and paints a striking picture of how the homes we know today differ from homes through history. The transformation of houses into homes, she argues, was not a private matter, but an essential ingredient in the rise of capitalism and the birth of the Industrial Revolution. Without 'home', the modern world as we know it would not exist, and as Flanders charts the development of ordinary household objects - from cutlery, chairs and curtains, to fitted kitchens, plumbing and windows - she also peels back the myths that surround some of our most basic assumptions, including our entire notion of what it is that makes a family. As full of fascinating detail as her previous bestsellers, The Making of Home is also a book teeming with original and provocative ideas.

The energy crisis is one of the most pressing and significant problems the world has to face. With limited resources of fossil fuels left, and the additional political and environmental issues that surround their use, it is clear that life on earth cannot continue as it is without the development of alternative sources of power. In Britain, many are rightly wary of expanding the nuclear energy programme. The UK Government's policy of support for wind energy and its attempts to achieve 20% electricity generation from renewable sources by 2020 has been lauded by many, yet described as "a fatuous obsession" by others. Scotland's targets are five times more ambitious and therefore invite intensive scrutiny. The time has come to expose Scotland's green energy myth. The truth is that wind turbines violate the principle of fairness by transferring vast amounts of money from the poor to the rich. They despoil our unique landscape and environment; they risk plunging the nation into a devastating energy crisis and through noise, the flicker-effect and vibration, they abuse the health and welfare of people and animals which have to live near them. They are visual monstrosities that produce a trickle of electricity at vast cost to the consumer and they do not significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
