This volume stems from the seminar Striving for Harmony in Indian Culture and Society, hosted by the Chair of South Asian Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Warsaw; 21-23 September 2023), which continues a tradition of over 25 years of cooperation among Indology centres at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), the University of Milan (Italy), Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland), the University of Warsaw (Poland), and the University of Cagliari (Italy), with a one-time organizational contribution from the University of Calicut (India). The annual rotating seminars gather researchers studying Indian traditions from ancient times to the present day. The source material, which is diverse in many aspects - linguistic, genre, and temporal - is analysed from the perspective of the central theme of each seminar and further developed in a volume published after the meeting. The volume features selected articles by both experienced and emerging Indologists. It focuses on the notions of harmony, balance, and unity - or their absence - as explored through various disciplines, including literary studies, linguistics, philosophy, history, cultural studies, and religious studies, along with their significance within a broader socio-cultural context.

The subject matter of this work is exceptionally significant, both for its uniqueness and international relevance, as well as for the implications it holds for law and practice, particularly in recent years. It has inspired various authors (primarily foreign). Still, the resulting works have usually addressed it fragmentarily or incidentally (a natural state of affairs in the development of research trends), rarely positioning themselves within the discipline of legal sciences as a fundamental one. The approach presented in the reviewed work has not yet been adequately represented in monographic form ( ). The work is intriguing, evokes scholarly concern (in the positive sense), and encourages academic reflection.Professor Maciej Perkowski The book under review is an essential work in the field of legal science, interdisciplinary in nature (...). The eponymous problem the development of cosmopolitan law and its impact on states, as well as its interactions with traditional legal systems is fascinating, timely, and worthy of description. It is also worth noting that the author places European Union law alongside traditional legal orders as an emanation of the state. The author certainly took on the scholarly challenge of writing the book. And the final result commands respect.

The book Images of the Other in Ethnic Caricatures of Central and Eastern Europe contains 16 articles and over 100 graphics namely ethnic caricatures. It presents work of scientists from Central and Eastern Europe focusing in their texts on data also from that region. Contributors of the volume represent various scientific disciplines and thus various approaches. In the book one can find theoretical articles as well as particular interpretations of visual data. Images of the Other in Ethnic Caricatures is the first such detailed study on nineteenth- and early twentieth- century ethnic caricatures from Central and Eastern Europe. However the aim of editors of the volume was not to introduce to the readers all-encompassing analysis of those pictures, but rather to make an attempt of deconstructing stereotypes existing behind pictures and depicted in those graphics. The general aim of the volume is to start a discussion on ethnic caricatures, their perceiving and their function and not to give final solutions for studying it.
