During the Second World War, an unofficial group of Polish diplomats from Polish Legation i Bern, led by that counrys envoy to Switzerland Aleksander Ładoś, cooperated with representatives of Jews. From at least the beginning of 1941 until the end of 1943, the members illegaly purchased and issued passports and citizenship certificates of four South and Central American states: Paraguay, Honduras, Haiti and Peru. These wewe delivered to people under threat of death in the Holocaust and served to protect their bearers from transport to the death camps located in the Third Reich.Variou estimates show that the Ładoś Group issued 4,000 to 5,000 of these documents during a passport campaign which could have reached as many as 10,000 people. This publicationrepresents the first attempt to create a list of all the people for whom these documents were created. The list currently includes 3,253 individuals, some of whom survived the war, some of whom perished in the Holocaust, and many whose faits remain unknown. The list is accompained by an extensive description of the Ładoś Gropus actions, the development methods used and a preliminary statistical analisys of the material. Research on the list was concluded by the Polish Embassy i n Bern in cooperation with the Pilecki Institute and with the suport of other institutions, such as the Jweish Historical Institute, the Institute of National Remembrance and the Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Polish historians and political leaders have often used the term gente Rutheni, natione Poloni to characterize figures of Ruthenian/Ukrainian descent who viewed themselves as part of a Polish political or national community. The duality and hybridity of theses figures’ identity have excluded them from traditional Polish and Ukrainian national narratives. Adam Świątek has given us the first fully encompassing work examining the persons, organizations, and ideologies of this group from the end of the eighteenth to the beginning of the twentieth century. Based on a thorough examination of sources and literature, his monograph provides a nuanced account of how the concept and group were transformed and functioned in Habsburg Galicia. The volume is essential reading for all those interested in Polish-Ukrainian relations and those who wish to study varying national identities and historical concepts in the Galician crownland over the long nineteenth century. By undertaking an examination of a concept and group that did not succeed with the advent of modern nationalism, he enriches our understanding of the Habsburg world and modern Polish and Ukrainian nationhood. In the monograph, the author raises important issues in the field of free movement of persons in the EU, starting with law basics, the scope of freedom, EU legal acts and judicature of the Court of Justice of the European Union, restrictions on the free movement - public order and public safety, the economic dimension of restrictions, employment in public administration, the protection procedure (decision, appeal and supervision over the process of restrictions), measures used against citizens of the European Union and their family members (ban on leaving, entry ban, expulsion). The monograph concerns the origin of the Latin -ies/-ia inflection, the topic which to this day has not been explained satisfactorily. The proposal presented in the book allows for the most economic solution to the problem without difficult assumptions which were present in the previous hypotheses. The author explains the origin of the formation as the result of the identification and mutual influence of three former paradigms reconstructed for Proto-Indo-European and subsequent analogical influence of the commonly used Latin noun dies day from the fifth declension. Apart from the hypothesis itself, the analysis of all the forms of the Latin -ies/-ia inflection is presented with an etymological commentary and illustrative examples from the original ancient texts. The question on the origin of the Latin fifth declension is also mentioned alongside the modern description of the Proto-Indo-European derivational morphology. Dariusz R. Piwowarczyk - Assistant Professor in the Department of Classical Philology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. He holds an M.A. degree in Classical Philology (Jagiellonian University) and omparative Indo-European Linguistics (Leiden University) alongside a Ph. D. in Linguistics (Jagiellonian University). In the spring of 1917 the Warsaw Publishing Company published the first volume of my History of Russia which in 527 pages of the 8th print size covered the time period only up to the year 1449. Before I shall be able to complete this work in the same sort of detail, the need appeared, a very urgent one, to give to our general public a concise overview of the subject - and so this is the genesis of the present book. From start to finish this book contains only the results of my own investigations and many years of studies which were conducted and interrupted due to various circumstances of life. This is an abridged version in respect to the former more exten-sive study, providing here only its backbone. It is an abbrevia-tion of the first volume and a conspectus of further ones pub-lished in advance because of the practical needs of the public. For this reason in this volume I have kept to the rule that a presentation of the earlier times is given as briefly as possible and the work expands increasingly as more recent times are dealt with. This shortened version is completely void of the so called scientific apparatus; this is left for the more detailed editions in which I shall try to maintain the same method as was used in vol. 1. Whoever is interested in details, deductions, proofs, who likes to ask the question: why and requires justified answers for it will have to look into the main study and consider the present volume as an introductory reading.

In the Chronicles of Terror series we publish testimonies of specific individuals - victims and witnesses of two totalitarianisms. They record the personal experiences of thousands of Poles and their families and loved ones. The present volume comprises accounts concerning the events that took place in the Śródmieście district during the Warsaw Uprising.The witnesses describe mass extermination, conducted by the Germans in such locations as the Jordan Garden, the ruins of the General Inspectorate of the Armed Forces, Hala Mirowska, the Opera or Ancs Pharmacy. Many of those testifying miraculously survived executions or were used as human shields for German tanks and infantry units. The accounts also present the methodical destruction of Śródmieścies buildings, carried out both during and after the fighting.
