"Liquidity risk is a topic growing immensely in importance in riskmanagement. It has been much neglected by financial institutionsand regulators in recent years and receives, in the course of thesub-prime crisis, sudden and great attention. This book iswell-structured and provides a comprehensive and systematicapproach to the topic. It will help risk controllers tosystematically set up a liquidity risk framework in theirbank." --Peter NEU, European Risk Team Leader, The BostonConsulting Group, and co author of Liquidity Risk Measurementand Management "Mr Duttweiler's book is a welcome addition to the literature onliquidity risk measurement and management. In addition to hiscontributions to liquidity risk theory and liquidity pricing, theauthor provides a good overview of all of the criticalelements." --Leonard Matz, International Solution Manager, LiquidityRisk and co-author of Liquidity Risk Measurement andManagement Liquidity Risk Management has gained importance overrecent years and particularly in the last year, as major bankfailures have led to a re-evaluation of the significance ofliquidity in stressed market conditions. Liquidity risk is closelyrelated to market risk and solvency, suggesting its significance intimes of volatile and 'bear' markets, where a single bank'sfailure can have dramatic effects on market liquidity. The term liquidity is not well-define, and a comprehensiveunderstanding of its common elements is often missing within abanking organisation. In too many cases, liquidity risk managementhas not been developed with a coherent framework and generallyaccepted terms and methods, creating weaknesses in its structureand vulnerability to market risk. In this title, Duttweileradvances the study of quantitative liquidity risk management withthe concept of the 'Liquidity Balance Sheet', which allocatesportfolios into a specific structure, and consequently is able toaccount for potentially negative surprises so that the necessarybuffers can be quantified. The book begins with an overview of liquidity as part offinancial policy and highlights the importance of liquidity as partof a general business concept and as protector and supporter of abusiness as a going concern. The author examines the role oliquidity in helping managers to achieve high-level liquidity aimsto support operating units to achieve business goals. He looks atquantitative methods of assessing a banks liquidity levels, including LaR and VaR, to establish an integrated concept in whichliquidity is incorporated into the framework of financial policies. He also presents methods, tools, scenarios and concepts to create apolicy framework for liquidity and to support contingencyplanning.

A practical guide to understanding and navigating the unique challenges faced by physicians and other professionals who wish to undertake research in the ED or other acute care setting. Focusing on the hyper-acute and acute care environment and fulfilling two closely-related needs: 1) the need for even seasoned researchers to understand the specific logistics and issues of doing research in the ED; and 2) the need to educate clinically active physicians in research methodology. This new text is not designed to be a complex, encyclopedic resource, but instead a concise, easy-to-read resource designed to convey key "need-to-know" information within a comprehensive framework. Aimed at the busy brain, either as a sit-down read or as a selectively-read reference guide to fill in knowledge gaps, chapters are short, compartmentalized, and are used strategically throughout the text in order to introduce and frame concepts. This format makes it easy - and even entertaining - for the research novice to integrate and absorb completely new (and typically dry) material. The textbook addresses aspects of feasibility, efficiency, ethics, statistics, safety, logistics, and collaboration in acute research. Overall, it grants access for the seasoned researcher seeking to learn about acute research to empathically integrate learning points into his or her knowledge base. As the ED is the primary setting for hyper-acute and acute care, and therefore a prime site for related clinical trial recruitment and interventions, the book presents specific logistical research challenges that researchers from any discipline, including physicians, research nurse coordinators, study monitors, or industry partners, need to understand in order to succeed.

Discover the origins of the Lionesses that brought football home. Shortlisted for the Sports Book Awards for Best Football Writing of the Year England's Lionesses are on the front and back pages; their stars feature on prime-time television; they are named in the national honours lists for their contribution to their sport and to society. The names of Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton and Ellen White are emblazoned across the backs of children's replica jerseys. These women are top athletes – and top celebrities. But in 1921, the Football Association introduced a ban on women's football, pronouncing the sport 'quite unsuitable for females'. That ban would last for half a century - but despite official prohibition the women's game went underground. From the Dick, Kerr Ladies touring the world to the Lost Lionesses who played at the unsanctioned Women's World Cup in Mexico in 1971, generations of women defied the restrictions and laid the foundations for today's Lionesses - so much so that in 2018 England's Women's Super League became the first fully professional league in Europe...when just a few decades previously women were forbidden to play the sport in England at all. This book tells the story of women's football in England since its 19th-century inception through pen portraits of its trailblazers. The game might have once been banned because of its popularity – find out about the subversive women who kept organising their teams and matches despite the prohibition, who broke barriers and set records – the legends of the game who built the foundations of the stage upon which today's stars flourish. 'At what feels like a pivotal moment, Carrie's forensic research and depth of knowledge make her the perfect person to guide us through the constantly changing landscape of women's football' - Kelly Cates, TV presenter

Self-Help Group (SHG) microcredit is emerging as a springboard of developmental finance for Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in rural areas of India, serving the cause of the landless, small, and marginal households. SHG peer pressure is the primary driver of impressive repayment performance. Present field research in India reveals that homogeneity of SHG members and freedom of participation in SHG deliberations are primarily responsible for strengthening collective action. Specifically, the savings and loan per capita, satisfactory performance of organisation, awareness of SHG linkage, the family size, and age-induced responsibility were found to strongly influence the economic performance of SHGs. These are the key drivers of sustainability of SHGs for their welfare. Using empirical evidence, Saikumar C. Bharamappanavara demonstrates the emergence of prime factors determining the performance of SHGs in India by examining their organisational behaviour and recommends appropriate policies for social cloning.

Division in society. The spread of misinformation. The rise of extremism. Centrism holds the answers. In an age of complex global challenges, extremism and populism offer a simple but fatally flawed narrative to a public craving a sense of normalcy. There is another way. Centrism has proven itself not only the most effective antidote to their dangerous brand of politics but also as a successful way to lead countries. Far from being an arbitrary middle point between left and right, centrism offers a coherent set of political ideas, principles and approaches - the importance of moderation and pragmatism; the embrace of complexity; the deep commitment to liberal democracy; the belief in equality of opportunity; and the belief that through balancing the tensions that exist in every nation we can make people's lives better. It is about finding the most productive and effective balance between globalisation and local communities, civil rights and security, religion and democracy, free markets and protecting the weakest in society. Drawing together politicians, thought leaders and social commentators – from Tony Blair to Michael Bloomberg, from Malcolm Turnbull to Kathryn Murdoch - The Centre Must Hold contains a series of essays from those who have led from the centre or made significant contributions to centrist thought and policy-making, including former prime ministers, policy makers, ministers and leading journalists from across the world. Praise for The Centre Must Hold: 'This book should be studied in every school across the globe' Anthony Seldon, author of Johnson at 10: The Inside Story 'A work of real breadth and hidden depths' Ian Dunt, author of How Westminster Works 'This book's clear-eyed case for our cherished liberal values is urgently needed.'
