Zosha Poznanska is an anonymous Jewish heroine of World War II. Born in Poland she immigrated to Eretz Israel as a pioneer and for a brief time belonged to the group that founded Kibuttz Mishmar Haemek. Afterwards she joined the Palestine Communist Party Palestiner Kumunistische Partie in Yiddish abbreviated PKP and from 1930 until her death she lived in France and Belgium. The book is written as a biographical novel and relies on exhaustive research all fictional passages are derived from and based on extensive documentation. The book was awarded the 2004 prize for top literary achievement by the Society of the Authors Composers and Music Publishers in Israel ACUM.

One of the characteristic facts concerning the catching-up countries is the exceptionally large variation in their per capita annual rate of growth, from about zero to about 10%. The papers published in this monograph show that this rate is strongly dependent on the rate of investment, the quality of the labour force and the quality of institutions. The rate of investment is, in turn, dependent on the rate of domestic savings. In Poland, domestic savings are shown to have been and continue to be very low by international standards. The trend rate of growth of about 3.7% has been about 2 pp. higher than that of the most developed economies, mainly thanks to the development of modern market institutions and a new private sector, and partly thanks to foreign direct investments and a significant inflow of finance from the European Union (EU). The data also show that by far the least successful transformation in Eastern Europe has taken place in Ukraine.(Author s Introduction)***Our discussion is limited to the Technology Frontier Area (TFA) of the world. The central question is how the area s innovation rate changes over time in the course of centuries. The analysis indicates that the pattern of change of the innovation rate over time may be eventually hat-shaped. Józef Piłsudski deserves credit for the adroitness with which he managed Polish affairs during and immediately after the First World War. This book is aimed at presenting his unique role in the breakthrough months between November 1918 and February 1919. His adeptness at preventing the Bolshevik revolution from spreading, at uniting rivaling political factions, and gaining international recognition for Poland within the victorious Entente, reached its culmination in the first parliamentary elections held in late January 1919 and when the elected Constituent Sejm convened in February 1919. Piłsudski had to choose constantly between the lesser of two evils – the revolutionary left and the Nationalists, the Central Powers and the Entente – but he led the Polish nation to a haven of relative peace and stability which ultimately came with the termination of the Polish-Soviet War in 1921 and the end of inflation in 1924.
