Nach jahrzehntelangen Erfahrungen mit dem Schamanismus in Theorie und Praxis war es der Autorin ein Anliegen, in dem vorliegenden Buch mögliche Wirkmechanismen des Schamanisierens aufzuzeigen. Dazu setzt sie das Schamanisieren in Beziehung zur neuen Quantenphysik, zur Kunst, zur Psychoanalyse und zur Landschaft. Das Interesse am Schamanismus in unserer heutigen Kultur im Wandel ist das Resultat eines gerade stattfindenden Paradigmenwechsels, weg vom Objekt hin zum Prozess. Das Schamanisieren als Performance übt deshalb eine grosse Faszination aus. Beim Vergleich des alten mit dem neuen Schamanismus fällt besonders der fortschreitende Weg in eine immer niedrigschwelligere Praxis auf. Einst erfolgte die Berufung zum Schamanen durch die Schamanenkrankheit. Zwar tritt dieses archetypische Phänomen auch heute noch auf, doch die drastischen Nahtoderlebnisse kontrastieren mit den sanften schamanischen Ausbildungswegen und Praktiken des New Age Schamanismus. Der New Age Schamanimus benutzt abgewandelte Formen das traditionellen Schamanismus, hat aber seine Wurzeln vor allem in der katathymen Imaginationstherapie und dem Yoga.
