<p>En 1860, Auguste Bonthoux et son frère cadet quittent Poligny, leur village de la vallée du Champsaur dans les Hautes-Alpes, pour l’Ouest américain.<br>Sur place, son frère se noie en traversant une rivière. Déçu par ce pays qu’il juge inhospitalier, Auguste continue son périple jusqu’en Australie où il exerce le métier de géomètre-expert tout en parcourant dans ses moments de loisirs la région de Sydney à la recherche de la flore locale.<br>Mais, plutôt que de constituer un herbier dont il craint la fragilité, il dessine puis peint avec une grande maîtrise artistique les fleurs qu’il récolte.<br>De retour en France, en digne émule du célèbre botaniste Dominique Villars (17451814), originaire de Noyer, village situé à quatre kilomètres de Poligny, il constituera un herbier peint de sa chère flore alpine, dont Les belles toxiques, extrait des carnets dont son petit-neveu Georges Gastaldy a hérité.<br><br><br>À PROPOS DE L’AUTEUR</p> <p><b>Georges Gastaldy</b> présente l’œuvre de son ancêtre <i>Auguste Bonthoux</i> qui émigre de Poligny (Hautes-Alpes) <br>à Sydney en Australie. <br>Auguste s’intéresse à la botanique.
