This book provides a comparative perspective on one of the most intriguing developments in law: the influence of basic rights and human rights in private law. It analyzes the application of basic rights and human rights, which are traditionally understood as public law rights, in private law, and discusses the related spillover effects and changing perspectives in legal doctrine and practice. It provides examples where basic rights and human rights influence judicial reasoning and lead to changes of legislation in contract law, tort law, property law, family law, and copyright law. Providing both context and background analysis for any critical examination of the horizontal effect of fundamental rights in private law, the book contributes to the current debate on an important issue that deserves the attention of legal practitioners, scholars, judges and others involved in the developments in a variety of the world’s jurisdictions.

This book is based on the General Report and national reports commissioned by the International Academy of Comparative Law and written for the XIXth International Congress of Comparative Law in Vienna, Austria, in the summer of 2014.

A new pocket edition of this Conradian tale of maddening desire, from the master of the novella On a sweltering ocean-liner travelling from India to Europe a passenger tells his story - the tale of a doctor in the Dutch East Indies torn between his duty and the pull of his emotions; a tale of power and maddening desire, of pride, shame and a headlong flight into folly. Amok is one of the most intense and incisive of the tales that brought Stefan Zweig to worldwide fame. Stefan Zweig was born in 1881 in Vienna, into a wealthy Austrian-Jewish family. He studied in Berlin and Vienna and was first known as a poet and translator, then as a biographer. Between the wars, Zweig was an international bestseller with a string of hugely popular novellas including Letter from an Unknown Woman, Amok and Fear. In 1934, with the rise of Nazism, he left Austria, and lived in London, Bath and New York - a period during which he produced his most celebrated works: his only novel, Beware of Pity, and his memoir, The World of Yesterday. He eventually settled in Brazil, where in 1942 he and his wife were found dead in an apparent double suicide. Much of his work is available from Pushkin Press.

He analyzes extensive qualitative and quantitative data obtained during a series of personal interviews in consulting firms with offices in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The results show that organizational size and to a lesser degree task uncertainty are closely associated with organizational structure.

A competence-oriented training aims to develop professional action capability and aligns with the qualification requirements of the job market. Vocational training models that focus on learning as part of the work process are seen as guarantors for low youth unemployment in Europe. The volume describes approaches for this training model, which were collected as part of the TrainCom project. The "European Alliance for Apprenticeships" has been supporting reform in vocational training in Europe since 2013. TrainCom and the information and learning platform developed within the scope of the project, which illustrates competence-oriented vocational training practices, are part of the Alliance. The EU-funded project TrainCom was coordinated by the Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (Forschungsinstitut Betriebliche Bildung - f-bb) in conjunction with five partner institutions in Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy, with two enterprises from the automotive industry supervising the project from a business standpoint.
